چکیده
Recent developments in Broadband Wireless Access (BWA), caused users to use multimedia, real–time and high bandwidth intensive applications that lead to a new era of research and development in wireless networks. IEEE 802.16 standard has come forward as BWA solution to fulfill the requirements of users. Even though IEEE 802.16 standard defines scheduling service flows and quality of service parameters, but scheduling of these flows to maintain QoS and fairness among flows is left open for researchers. In this paper we developed a scheduling architecture for IEEE 802.16 in both uplink and downlink directions. Our scheduling architecture includes QoS parameters like maximum sustained rate, maximum latency, tolerated jitter, minimum reserved bandwidth, request transmission policy, traffic priority, burst size, SDU size and queue information for various scheduling service flows. We use First in First out (FIFO), Earliest Deadline First (EDF) and Self Clocked Fair Queuing (SCFQ) to schedule different flows to achieve QoS and efficient bandwidth utilization.

Bandwidth management over wired bottleneck links has been an effective way to utilize network resources. For the rapidly emerging IEEE 802.11b Wireless LAN (WLAN), the limited WLAN bandwidth becomes a new bottleneck and requires bandwidth management. Most possible existing solutions only exclusively focus on optimizing multimedia traffic, pure downlink or pure uplink fairness, or are incompatib...
متن کاملiVoIP: an intelligent bandwidth management scheme for VoIP in WLANs
Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) has been widely used by many mobile consumer devices in IEEE 802.11 wireless local area networks (WLAN) due to its low cost and convenience. However, delays of all VoIP flows dramatically increase when network capacity is approached. Additionally, unfair traffic distribution between downlink and uplink flows in WLANs impacts the perceived VoIP quality. This p...

ABSTRACT In this paper, we describe our proposed adaptive deficit-based scheduler for IEEE 802.16e networks working in TDD mode. The scheduler comprised of deficit-based priority queue with adaptive quantum to support variable rate data in both downlink and uplink directions. A Minimum Tolerable Traffic Rate, a QoS parameter defined by the standard is used to guarantee minimum service provided ...
متن کاملResource Management and QoS Provisioning for Duplex Services in IEEE 802.16
Duplex services are multimedia services that requires good connectivity in both uplink and downlink such as VoIP, video conferencing and interactive gaming. A weak connection in either directionmay cause degradation of performances and dissatisfaction of user experience. Most researchers do not consider this issue and treat resource allocations in uplink and downlink independently. For this reas...
